A brand Mario soccer game was revealed for the Nintendo Switch during today’s Nintendo Direct: Mario Strikers: Battle League. It was announced alongside a release date of June 10
Following in the footsteps of Super Mario Strikers, Battle League is a 5v5 soccer game mixed with offensive items like shells, and bananas, as well as special shots based on the character you are controlling.
Battle League will also have different gear you can equip to augment each character both statistically and visually. Some examples shown were Mario himself wearing beefy metal armor that increased his Strength stat, compared to lighter armor that seemed to include a Dragon Ball Z-style scouter lens that instead increased his Passing stat.
The reveal trailer also detailed a move called the Hyper Shot, which enables players to charge a super kick when they collect a special orb on the field. If the kick goes in, it will count for two goals instead of one.
Up to 8-player multiplayer will be supported locally on a single Switch. Additionally, online play will be available – including a “Club Mode” that allows you to invite others to join and compete globally.
